Academies: who are they good for? A public meeting. 13th September 2012, 7-30pm

On Thursday 13th September, 7-30pm.

St Cuthbert’s Hall

Newnham Street, Bedford, MK40 3JR.

The increasing number of schools in Bedford seeking to become academies raises the question of who benefits?

  • Will the change in status mean the students get a better education?
  • Will class sizes in the academies be smaller than they are now?
  • Will the change mean that the teachers and support staff will have better conditions to work in?
  • Will the finances of the new academies be better than they are now?

These are some of the questions that this public meeting will seek to answer.

Speakers include:

Alastair Smith – Anti-academies Alliance

Christine Blower – General Secretary,  National Union of Teachers.

The meeting is organised by Bedford NUT, Bedford Trades Council, Bedford ATL, NASUWT, GMB and Unison.
